Classical Ballet
Students study under the Syllabus of the British Ballet Organisation (BBO.)
Established in 1930 it is a brilliant training system choreographed by Brenda Last. The training is beautiful, elegant, and strong. It was a long search that I have chosen this syllabi for the school as I have danced under and taught nearly every one there is. This (BBO) for me feels the best to a dancers body, and sees the best results. This work is well enjoyed by the students of The Dance House and have resulted in a high standard and pass rate by a well balanced and beautiful approach to classical ballet.
I was once taught by her in my training at New Zealand School of Dance. It was one the most memorable dance experiences I have had. As well as being encouraged from watching her and following her as an artist, it was the best I'd ever felt as a dancer. Apart from feeling tall and clumsy, (as she is just 5ft and I 5ft7) I was hugley inspired.)

Brenda Last BBO Choreographer.
Brenda Last had her early training with Biddy Pinchard, Vera Volkova and Andrew Hardie - a very distinguished lineage, which led to her winning the Adeline Genee Gold Medal in 1955. She then joined the Royal Ballet School but after only a year she was told that her height - she just tops five feet - meant that she'd never be taken into the company: so she left, and for a couple of years led a freelance existence in pantomime, film, television, cabaret - anything that was going, and the dole when there was nothing. In 1957 she was invited to join the newly-formed Western Theatre Ballet, and stayed there until 1962 when Ninette de Valois offered her a contract in the touring Royal Ballet. (She hadn't grown in the meantime but evidently that was no longer so important!) Within a couple of years she was promoted to Principal, and she later served as the company's ballet mistress. From 1977 to 1980 she was the Artistic Director of the Norwegian Ballet, From 1980 to 1994 she was, with Ronald Emblen, senior ballet tutor at the London Contemporary Dance School. She has also taught world-wide for the R.A.D., served on the Arts Council Dance Panel and the Olivier Awards. She is presently Director of Training for the British Ballet Organisation and teaches regularly at London Studio Centre.
Modern Jazz
Modern dance training at the dance house studies under the International Dance Teachers association (IDTA.)This I felt sylerbi trains the student well in all the fundamentals our bodies need and, carries the modern dance style well .The form is honest and mature as it goes through the grades and becomes beautiful, strong, sassy and energetic. It holds well also to all the contemporary principals that the student needs to easily carry into that genre as they mature.
Again there are many out there and I was after one that would be faithful not only to the ballet dancers who wanted to extend themselves, but also to those just 'off the street' as it were. Although it is true to be said that beginning with and taking ballet (as with classical training for an instrument) is still the best place to start for the serious.
However many come in and just want to go with Modern Dance. Also, having majored and graduated in Contemporary Dance (NZSD) I wanted a syllabus that would serve those who wanted only Modern training. So that those students could come in and receive a grounded training that covered many of the basics that ballet did in their chosen genre. And that training could lead them on to Contemporary Dance - a notable dance form and, so be it, dance opportunities and or, career.
I studied Modern dance styles such as Martha Graham, Hose' Limon, & Hawkins technique.
At NZSD I was taught by Lois Silino, Liz Davey, Micheal Parmenter, Jamie Bull and Sue Jorden.I fell all these tutors were passionate to what Modern/Contemporary Dance was for. Pure form, that expresses the soul. All be it differently from each other (as our souls are) but well designed movement, practiced artistically and with sound techniques. Where perhaps for some, and certainly not all in our audiences, ballet may not reach the soul I believe modern dance and contemporary -does!
Therefore an important ingredient in the training of dancers.

Contemporary Dance.
Open classes are held in this genre. Graduating with a diploma in Contemporary Dance we were trained by several artists.
I studied Modern dance styles covering Martha Graham, Hose' Limon, & Hawkins technique.
At NZSD I was taught by Lois Silino, Liz Davey, Micheal Parmenter, Jamie Bull and Sue Jorden.I felt all these tutors were passionate to what Modern/Contemporary Dance was for. Pure form, free from pretense, that expresses the soul. All be it differently from each other (as our souls are) but well designed movement, practiced artistically and with sound techniques. Where perhaps for some, and certainly not all in our audiences, ballet may not reach the soul, I believe contemporary -does!
Therefore an important ingredient in the training of dancers.
It is by these styles I form my classes and training. Tutoring contemporary dance since 1991 I have built up class work for the beginner in there early teens through to adult classes.
Musical Theatre.
Musical Theatre is new to Dance House this year. Two years ago IDTA has released a new syllabus put together by some of London's greats. The work covers Vocal warm ups, Drama exercises, and of course Dance routines. All is then put together in the musical theatre genre in performance of theatre in Traditional, Contemporary, Gospel and Original Musical Theatre .
Tap Dance.
Tap for beginners classes are this year on the programme.
It is hoped that this will build along side musical theatre.
Tap is rhythm city and teaches it well through the grades and is lots of fun.
It is the IDTA sylerbus and is a great stylistically and moves well through the grades.
